Ethernet Network

What is NTP? Network Time Protocol (NTP) is an internet protocol used to synchronize with computer clock time sources in a network.

All Calmotion devices use NTP to set system time. The USB only products do not keep time.

To set the current time on any of the network products, the time can only set using the standard network time protocol. NTP is either built into the network router, otherwise the a NTP server on the internet will need to be used. The time will be set when the product is turned on. So the network has to be active when the Calmotion is turned on.

The IP addresses are in the LANCNC.INI or the 527F.INI file on the SD card root directory.  They will look like this for example:

IP address=192.168.1.112

IP mask=255.255.252.0

When selecting IP addresses for the LANCNC or LANUSB units, use IP addresses that are high on the IP last number.  Like 240, for example 192.168.1.240 and another device at 192.168.1.241, etc.

The IP address is stored in the LANCNC.INI file, but once the INI is set, the file is not needed anymore on the SD card. Remember, to write down the settings that are used in the LANCNC.INI. Or print them out and store the print out with the device. Also write on the print out what all the settings are for the communication with your machine are.

The Calmotion LANCNC, LANUSB and 527F products all come standard with a wired RJ45 Ethernet port. All of these devices can connect wirelessly with adding a simple device that converts the wired connection to a Wifi connection.

The device to purchase go by several different names, like WiFi Adapter, Gaming adapter, a Client Mode access point, or Mesh Network. If the network is a "Mesh Network" with muliple satalites, you could use free ethernet ports that are on a nearby satalite mesh network device. The key when selecting what is right you, is it has to have a RJ45 Ethernet port and it has be able to connect to existing WiFi network. It should indicate it has the ability to "Allow devices that require a wired connection to access an existing Wi-Fi network."

Windows buffers FTP data. This creates problems if the FTP information changes. If the FTP page is refreshed with F5 will typically work. It is suggested to force Windows to always reload FTP pages. 

To make this change:

1. Open the Windows Internet Options properties (see screen shots below)

2. Select “settings”

3. Select “Every time I visit a webpage”

4. Save settings by clicking “OK”

Windows has a program called IPCONFIG. When this program is run on Windows using the CMD application, it will display the current network settings on the computer:

1) Run the CMD program on Windows. (Press the Win + R keys on your keyboard, then type CMD)

2) Run the IPCONFIG application at the prompt in Command Prompt (see image above)

3) Locate the current IPv4 IP address the computer is using (see image above)

4) Insert the Calmotion SD card into the computer to open the SD contents.
