AMP-0040C, AMP-0039C and AMP-0041C status fault codes for AC amplifier

The AMP-00xxC AC amplifier uses seven segment display to indicate status. This will give the status of the amplifier. After machine reports and amplifier fault, read the status for the reason the amplifier pulled the the fault line is down.

(note, this is for the Calmotion "C" version amplifier, the OEM version uses individual LEDs on the top board and on the bottom of the bottom board to indicate the current error, see silkscreen for description).

LED error codes on CALAMP-1 amplifier

The CalAmp-1 AC amplifier uses 2 LEDS to indicate status. One is red the other is green. See below for the location on the amplifier and blinking codes table. This will give you status of the amplifier. After machine reports and amplifier fault, read the status for the reason the amplifier pulled the the fault line is down.

Commutation/Hall Fault on AC Amplifier

The AC amplifier uses 3 wires at power on to determine the initial position of the motor. Once the motor rotates, the amplifier will not use the commutation/hall tracks anymore. So, this error will only occur at power on and when the motor initially begins to rotate. Below are some suggestions to determine the cause.

  • If the fault is all the time then the wire is broken or the encoder is contaminated. Opening the rear cap of the motor and there is fluid present is probably going to indicate the encoder is contaminated. The motor will need to be replaced since encoders are not replaceable in the field on an AC motor.

  • If the fault is intermittent, then typically the cause of a commutation fault is a loose wire or poor connection. To test the wiring on an AC motor, check the wiring from the amplifiers 20 pin connector all the way…

Replacing INV-00xx spindle inverter or vector drive

The Calmotion CALAMP-7 spindle drive will replace any horsepower drive that powers a Fadal spindle motor*. Whether the spindle motor has an encoder or not as well as supporting rigid tapping option on the machine. The CALAMP-7 is a drop in replacement for inverters and vector drives from Baldor, AMC, Mitsubishi, Yaskawa, GTK, Sweo and Toshiba.

Typical list of part numbers the CALAMP-7 will replace: INV-0015, INV-0016, INV-0020, INV-0039, INV-0040, INV-0041, INV-0042, INV-0043, INV-0044, INV-0045, INV-0046, INV-0049, INV-0055, INV-0056, INV-0058, INV-0059, INV-0070, INV-0077, INV-0083, INV-0086, INV-0093, INV-0095, INV-0096, INV-0097

*Rare exceptions are the 50 Taper machines with 480V vector drives, tool room mill (TRM), Fanuc, and Siemens machines.

-For drives that have built in regen resistors, like some Mitsubishi drives, a regen resistor will need to be added.

-Typically with a Mitsubishi drive the incoming power and motor wires are terminated with a ring crimp, these will need to clipped…
